Alex Wharton is Head Teacher English and Drama at Northern Beaches Christian School (Sydney). He graduated from the University of Sydney with a Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Education (Honours), and Macquarie University with a Masters of Educational Leadership.
Throughout his teaching career, Alex has been the recipient of numerous awards for his outstanding contribution to education, including a NSW Premier’s Teacher Scholarship, the Australian College of Educators’ Paul Brock Medal, and the Teachers’ Guild of NSW World Teachers’ Day Award. Alex has presented at local, state, and national educational conferences. He has published teaching and learning resources extensively, including writing for the Australian Government’s National Literacy and Numeracy Week, and contributing to a NSW HSC Study Guide with Cambridge University Press.
Alex is passionate about animal protection education, positively influencing this aspect of teaching and learning in schools for his students and colleagues. Intentionally developing critical thinking skills into his pedagogy, the drive for animal protection shapes Alex’s teaching practice in the English classroom, and also features in his own professional learning.
