In 1968, at age 19, Tim Storrier was the youngest artist ever to be awarded the Sulman Prize. Storrier’s work achieved a level of public acclaim that was unique in Australia for an artist of his generation. Known for his poetic evocations of the Australian landscape, he remains one of our most respected and sought-after artists.
Born in 1949 in Sydney, Tim Storrier studied at the National Art School and has a Doctor of Arts (Hons) from Charles Sturt University, NSW. A former Trustee of the Art Gallery of New South Wales, he was awarded the Order of Australia (AM) for his services to art. He lives in Bathurst NSW.
Storrier has exhibited at the Art Gallery of New South Wales; Art Gallery of Western Australia; SH Ervin Gallery, Sydney; Holmes à Court Gallery, Perth; Brisbane City Gallery, Queensland; Sherman Galleries, Sydney; Metro 5 Gallery, Melbourne; Deutscher Fine Art, Melbourne; Australian Galleries, Sydney & Melbourne; Philip Bacon Galleries, Brisbane; Schubert Galleries, Gold Coast, Queensland; and at numerous regional and university galleries.
Internationally, he has exhibited at Fischer Fine Art, London; Christopher Leonard Gallery, NewYork; Expo 74, Spokane, Washington; Louis Newman Gallery, Los Angeles; Chicago International Art Exposition; Hong Kong Arts Centre; Singapore Art Museum; Galerie Konoha, Japan; and the Embassy of Australia, Tokyo.
His prizes and commissions include the BHP Commission for International Iron and Steel Institute; Sulman Prize, Art Gallery of New South Wales; R M Ansett Hamilton Art Award; and the Sakura Colour Products Prize.
