2006 Grants Program

The Kangaroo Trail, a project initiated by 2006 Voiceless Grants Recipient the Australian Wildlife Protection Council.

The 2006 Voiceless Grants Program was an enormous success. On Thursday 22 February 2007, Voiceless awarded approximately $140,000 to a range of animal protection organisations, universities, councils and other non-profit groups. Acclaimed actor and Voiceless Ambassador, Hugo Weaving, presented the awards to the 2006 recipients at Sherman Galleries in Paddington.

The 2006 Awards Event also included the announcement of the inaugural $5,000 'Humane School' prize to the Animal Club that did most for animals in 2006. Animal Club Ambassador, Abbie Cornish, presented the prizes to the winning school, Mount Lawley Primary School and the two runners up, The Emanuel School and Clifton Hills Primary School. The Animal Club representatives were also given the unique opportunity to participate in a Children’s Art Workshop led by artist Guan Wei.

The 2006 Voiceless Awards Event was held to coincide with the opening of the art exhibition, Voiceless: I feel therefore I am, presented by Sherman Galleries. The exhibition was opened by Peter Garrett MP, AM, Shadow Minister for Climate Change, Environment, Heritage and the Arts.

Finally, the day concluded with a vegan dinner hosted for Voiceless by Otto Ristorante in celebration of our community's increasing involvement in animal protection. This dinner helped to raise awareness about animal protection issues and put ethical eating on the public agenda.
