As the Game and Feral Animal Control Amendment Bill 2009 (NSW) is set to be considered in NSW Parliament this month, animal protection and environment organisations have united in an urgent call for this piece of legislation to be rejected.

The coming weeks could herald a momentous step forward in the process of denouncing the institutionalised cruelty inflicted on millions of battery farmed chickens across Australia. In a bid to encourage the Australian Capital Territory’s stance against cage or ‘battery’ eggs, Caroline Le Couteur MLA of the ACT Greens has recently introduced the Eggs (Cage Systems) Legislation Amendment Bill 2009 to Parliament.
Voiceless is pleased to announce that the Pro Bono Animal Law Service (PALS@PILCH) was launched in NSW last week, filling a growing need to provide animal protection organisations and concerned individuals with access to free legal advice and representation.
Woolworths egged on by consumer concerns about battery hen suffering

Voiceless, the animal protection think tank, applauds reported moves by supermarket chain Woolworths to reduce the number of caged egg brands, including its ‘Woolworths Select’ brand, and to separate its eggs more clearly.
Congratulations to Rebecca Zaman and Ella Kucharova from the University of New South Wales, winners of the 2009 ALRC Kirby Cup Law Reform Competition! This year was the first time such a prestigious national competition has focused solely on animal welfare law reform.
