Malcolm Caulfield has worked for much of his life as a pharmacologist and electrophysiologist, spending over 25 years as a research scientist in the UK before deciding it was time for a change. In 1998 he moved to Australia to pursue a law degree at the University of Western Australia. Just over a decade later, Malcolm became the Principal Lawyer for the Animal Welfare Community Legal Centre (AWCLC), an organisation which he founded and which operates Australia-wide (although based physically in Tasmania) that he launched in January 2009.

Until last year, Brisbane solicitor Tracy-Lynne Geysen was working at a large city law firm, with a background firmly entrenched in family law. Since her interest in animal protection was sparked, she has been at the forefront of the movement in Queensland, most notably as a founding solicitor of BLEATS (Brisbane Lawyers Educating and Advocating for Tougher Sentences), a key Queensland organisation aimed at addressing the need for justice for animals. It was only after she became aware of Voiceless that Tracy realised her future career may lie in animal law.

Taronga Western Plains Zoo has been suspended from selling animals following claims that it misled the public about the sale of endangered antelope to a member of the Shooters’ Party lobbying for the right to hunt them.
