The kangaroo industry has labelled animal-welfare groups "environmental vandals" over their efforts to harpoon trade with Russia.

The Weekly Times reported last week that Federal Trade Minister Craig Emerson was working on a deal that would see trade re-opened - the kangaroo industry has halved since the vital Russian market ceased trade in 2009.
