A new bill tells us exactly what should come first: consumer awareness about eggs.
In a recent significant move, the NSW Greens Truth in Labelling (Free-range Eggs) Bill 2011 (Bill) passed NSW’s Upper House with support from the Greens, Labor and the Shooters and Fishers party. The Bill sets a legal definition for free range eggs; something that has only been accomplished in Tasmania and the ACT. |

The consumer watchdog has been urged to crack down on Australia's big poultry suppliers for using the term ''no hormones'' in their advertising because hormones have not been used in any chickens in Australia since the 1960s.
The animal welfare group Voiceless has lodged a complaint with the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission alleging several of the big chicken suppliers as well as the fast-food chain Oporto are misleading consumers. Read more

It’s going to be quite a night when Brian Sherman’s animal welfare institute Voiceless gives out its media awards next month.
Subjects covered by the awards include factory farming, kangaroo culling, animals used in entertainment or killed for fashion and live exports – which means the Four Corners program on cattle exports earlier this year is a hot favourite.
