The Institute for Sustainable Futures will investigate factory farming industries and produce a report on the major Australian players. The report will provide a comprehensive view of industry operations, their current drivers and the strategies they use to market their products and influence Government, public opinion and societal trends.
Lawyers for Animals (LFA), is creating a series of six print advertisements for the popular, free community newspaper MX. In keeping with the informative tone of the publication, the ads will utilise the “Old McDonald’s Farm” theme to attract consumer’s attention. Key points regarding the suffering of pigs, chickens and dairy cows will then deepen readers’ understanding of the key issues before redirecting them to the LFA website for further information.

“Kangaroo Footprints” is an activity book, teacher’s manual and companion website being developed for primary aged students. The project will help students (and their parents) develop a deeper understanding and appreciation for kangaroos by exploring attitudes and values and encouraging students to make informed decisions about animal protection.
RSPCA Queensland will develop a public awareness campaign, Choose to End Cruelty, focusing on the plight of factory farmed meat chickens (broilers) to empower the community to become a force for change. The campaign will also lobby retailers and restaurateurs to consider more ethical sourcing and lobby legislators to provide improved legal protections for poultry.
School of Law and Justice, Southern Cross University $5,000
The Animal Law Education Project is a collaboration between Southern Cross University’s School of Law & Justice and the Northern Rivers Community Legal Centre. The project will develop animal law learning-resources for delivery both online and through live workshops and forums to law students, legal advisors, public servants, animal organisations and other interested members of the public. The project seeks to create a strong community of informed animal activists and lawyers.
