Griffith University, who will be working with Compassion in World Farming, has received $20,000 for a humane education symposium titled ‘Humane Education: a compassionate ethic for animals’.  This event will bring together teachers, academics, government and animal welfare representatives with the objectives of: defining and assessing humane education initiatives in Australia to date; exploring perspectives over various education sectors; and promoting interest in the concept and application of ‘humane education’.

Redfern Legal Centre
has received $20,000 for their project entitled ‘Pro Bono Animal Rights Service’.  This service will operate as a register of legal practitioners willing to undertake cases (on a pro bono basis) in defence of animal rights. This project will also assist in the development of law and policy reform to protect animals from suffering.

Vegetarian/Vegan Society of Queensland has received $20,000 for their ‘Human Battery Cage Campaign’ which uses a kind of installation art with oversize battery cages containing human occupants to be displayed in public spaces around Australia. The purpose of the campaign is to illustrate the cramped and inhumane conditions that battery hens endure and to encourage members of the public to take action against this cruelty.
