Animal Liberation ACT received a $10,000 grant for their project - Free Range Canberra 2007 – ‘the endgame’. The goal of this project is to convince the ACT Legislative Assembly to take notice of the views of the people of Canberra and ban the use of battery cages. This will be achieved by raising public awareness, facilitating ways the public can approach politicians and lobbying politicians directly. Australian Wildlife Protection Council received a $10,000 grant for their project - The Kangaroo Wildlife Trail. The Kangaroo Wildlife Trail will give both Australians and international visitors a greater appreciation of and respect for kangaroo fauna through the creation of a tourist trail that will provide first-hand education on, and engagement with, kangaroos.

This project involves creating pressure through the media to encourage the Victorian government to permanently ban the recreational shooting of native waterbirds in Victoria.

Griffith University, who will be working with Compassion in World Farming, has received $20,000 for a humane education symposium titled ‘Humane Education: a compassionate ethic for animals’. This event will bring together teachers, academics, government and animal welfare representatives with the objectives of: defining and assessing humane education initiatives in Australia to date; exploring perspectives over various education sectors; and promoting interest in the concept and application of ‘humane education’. Griffith University, with The University of Auckland, received a $15,000 grant for a project which will bring together the growing number of academics and practitioners currently working on animal law scholarship across Australia and New Zealand for a forum of discussion and debate over the legal issues facing animals in this part of the world. Participants will then each contribute to the production of the first major academic work on animal law to be published in the Southern Hemisphere.
