Voiceless Media Prize Nominations Open Print E-mail

 

Nominations opened today for the $5,000 Voiceless Media Prize which will recognise the most valuable contribution in the media towards debate on the treatment of animals.

An online nomination form should be submitted by noon on Friday 30th October 2009 for a story published since 1st November 2008 in newspapers, magazines, television, radio or online.

The story must either:

  • address one of the following areas: factory farming; live export;
  • kangaroo 'culling' and other hunting and poisoning activities;
  • animal experimentation; animals in entertainment - zoos, circuses and rodeos; animals killed for fashion – fur and skins; or
  • examine the ethical relationship between human and non-human animals; or
  • bring attention to the sentience of animals.

Judges include: J M Coetzee, Nobel Prize winner for literature and Voiceless Patron; The Hon Bob Carr, former Premier of NSW; Emeritus Prof David Weisbrot AM, President of the ALRC and Ondine Sherman & Brian Sherman AM, Voiceless Managing Directors.
