2008 Humane School Prize Clifton Hills Primary School, WA $5,000 Winner

This school’s 2008 activities included: the creation of an animal wall mural; the performance of a play about the plight of pigs; and visitors speaking to the group about wildlife rehabilitation, frog conservation and caring for kangaroos. They also held a fruit kebab making session to highlight healthy eating options, made beanies and placemats to raise awareness about frogs, raised funds to help save the Australian Bilby and made library bags with messages about chickens.

Clifton Hills Primary School, WA $5,000 Winner ![]() Clifton Hills Primary School representatives accept their awards This school’s activities included collecting supplies and funds for various animal protection organisations and a number of significant activities bringing attention to focus on the factory farming of pigs. Of particular note was an activity which saw each Animal Club member designing and making a piggy hat. Each hat had a pro-pig slogan on it which the children came up with in a brainstorming session including: *Give the pigs freedom, *No pork on the fork *Knock down walls and stalls and *Even pigs need hugs.
![]() Free range pig farming was the theme Yuluma Primary School, WA $2,000 This school’s activities included raising funds for an ‘Adopt a Bear’ program, letter writing to protest against the slaughter of seals in Canada, a picnic fundraiser and working on various projects involving Free Range Versus Intensive Pig Farming. Donvale Primary School, VIC $1,000 2nd Runner Up (tied)
![]() Wilbur Pig from Edgar's Mission visited Donvale Primary Donvale Primary School’s activities included: collecting baskets and blankets for injured koalas, raising funds for a donkey shelter, and a wide range of pig related activities culminating in a visit from Pam Ahern and film star ‘Wilbur Pig’ from Edgar’s Mission.
