We have been extremely busy in Animal Club! Read Josh's story below about our conga line of busy beavers! Hopefully we will have the koala heat packs ready for sale early in term 3. The children in Animal Club will be selling them individually and they will also be on sale at school assembly. Hopefully we will sell many of our lovely bags because all of the money we raise will go to the Australian Koala foundation. I will keep you posted…  I’d also like to say a MASSIVE thank you to the following people, because without them Animal Club would not be involved in this wonderful initiative: Jaqui, Lily, Kim, Danielle & Stephen. (written by our Animal Club Leader, Lashay)

We have been making koala heat bags.   At the start of our activity, half our club members were shown how to make them by some of our parents. Then the other half joined in to make them too. We also had to open all the green fuzzy bags with pictures of koalas on them (this is what the heat bags go inside.)  Then when we were finished, we had made heaps of heat bags and now all we have to do is sew the inside of the heat bags together and put them in the koala bags.  (Written by Animal Club student, Josh)

On the day:
200 – 250 people turned up!

Mr Rudd – PM - was invited – he couldn’t come, but he wrote us a letter of congratulations
Mr Fenlon - MLA - came and then gave a speech about our work in parliament.
You can read it at:

Joshua holding his letter from the
Prime Minister

At the  commencement of 2008 many of our Animal Club students wrote letters to important people about animal issues. Joshua, a Year  2 student, wrote a protest letter and drew a picture against Whaling to our Prime Minister, Mr Rudd.

Last week Joshua received a reply from the Prime Minister.  Mr Rudd said he was glad to get Joshua’s letter, and he would try to help with the whaling.

Emanuel School - 1st May 2008

Emanuel’s Animal Club used part of funds raised last term to support Edgar’s Mission, a sanctuary for rescued farm animals at Willowmavin, Kilmore, Victoria.

The club members voted at a recent meeting to support the following animals and become “Best Buddies”:

  • Betty – an Isa Brown chicken:  Betty arrived at Edgar’s Mission in Oct 2007, almost featherless and frightened, with a large wound on her side – she was a battery hen.  She is now living a free life at Edgar’s Mission.  Her feathers have all grown back now!

  • Tippi – a Murray Grey/Friesian cross heifer:  Tippi was bought at a calf sale and is living a comfortable life at Edgar’s.
  • Georgia – a brown/black mare:  probably an ex racehorse, bought by Edgar’s at a slaughter yard.  Georgia was joined the day after her rescue at Edgar’s by a fellow horse from the slaughter yard that she was friends with.
  • Phantom – a Muscovy duck:  found wandering at a park, dumped by previous owners.
