For our second last meeting of the year, on Wednesday 10th of December, our Animal Club had a party. The party was a reward we received from Animal Club’s ambassador, Abbie Cornish, for all of the work we have done over the year to help animals and raise awareness of animal related issues.
At the party we enjoyed some scrumptious Subway rolls and juice boxes. Following this, each member also enjoyed a delicious Drumstick.
All of our members were delighted and everyone had a marvellous time at the party (Thank you very much Ms.Cornish!!).

Animal Club Mural Wall
The wall is transforming into a colourful array of creatures we care about! The children have enjoyed adding their artistic touches and are keen to finish it when animal club resumes next year.
A huge thank you to Lorel De Angelis and Katrina Larder for supervising the children for a few hours last week. They were able to send the kids home covered in much less paint than I did!
Next year we have a few mums and a dad who are keen to help the children so if your child is in Animal Club and has missed out on painting, they have not been forgotten.
Have a well earned rest everyone and don’t forget to keep an eye out for how you can help a creature or two over the holidays- I’ve got piles of rescue prizes to award!
Have a fabulous holiday!

Origami
We had an unusual meeting this week at animal club. Sean, Nelson and Yuhei offered to teach the members how to make Pterodactyls (Pterodactyls are classified as reptiles and are very closely related to dinosaurs. They lived during the Cretaceous period about 144 to 65 million years ago). Even though they don’t exist anymore, they are still creatures and we love all creatures in Animal Club! After sharing many rescue stories with Jaqui (our wonderful parent helper), we began learning the tricky art of origami. The boys did a great job of explaining, but with so many people to help we didn’t get through it and will meet again in two weeks to finish and decorate our Pterodactyls.
During the meeting, Jaqui filled us in the our visiting roo and the tawny frog mouth she rescued from our play ground and they are both doing well and are very happy and healthy which is great news!
Mr Pianta deserves a special mention this week as animal club members called for his assistance in putting a very young fledgling back in its nest during lunch time. The Animal Clubbers were very proud of him and wanted to award him with a special prize!

Catchment Kids
In October, Holland Park's Animal Club performed at
Brisbane’s City Hall in a celebration called Catchment Kids. We spoke and sang before over 400 other students.
We told them about our year-long work on issues of Sustainability – respecting and caring for animals – respecting and caring for our waterways – respecting and caring for our environment - respecting and caring for each other.
During our performance, we wore pink to represent our work on freeing sows from sow stalls and blue, the colour of our work to help everyone know about the importance of healthy waterways for us and for animals – especially those living in the Mangrove ecosystem.
Some of us wore gear that reminded us of our efforts to help save the threatened species of
Queensland’s
MaryRiver: the bottom breathing turtle, the lung fish and Mary River Cod.
Still others wore green – the colour of our efforts to help save threatened species in our local areas, like the ring-tailed possum. We had planted trees in a local park and helped tidy up.

Save the Whales
During recent meetings we have been looking at whales and the important role these magnificent creatures play in their marine environment.
We talked about the senseless killing of these beautiful creatures and about ways we could voice our protest against this. Some of the children decided to create kids pix pictures voicing their opinions which are featured below.
