Sydney Morning Herald: Letters to the Editor
by Brian Sherman

"Sir Paul McCartney’s entrée into the dispute over kangaroo culling in Belconnen has catapulted this issue onto the national agenda. "

"While Australia purports to be a world leader in animal protection, taking the moral high ground in response to Japanese whaling, we are responsible for the largest massacre of land-based wildlife on the planet. Approximately 30 million kangaroos have been lawfully killed in Australia over the last decade. Worse still, under the proposed new National Code of Practice for the Humane Shooting of Kangaroos and Wallabies, the Federal Government recommends that joeys be killed by decapitation or bludgeoning.

With our national icon at stake, surely it’s time for a meaningful debate on this issue.
Brian Sherman AM, Director"
