Apology to Voiceless - The Hon Sussan Ley MP Print E-mail
10 September 2006

By Sussan Ley MP

This statement is released to clarify a media release entitled "Animal rights activists telling porkies to school children" dated 18 May 2006.

Voiceless contends that the media release suggested it deliberately lied to school children. I accept that Voiceless strongly believes in the views it puts forward, such as that factory farming is cruel and should be banned, I also accept that Voiceless has not lied to schoolchildren and that it has only honestly communicated its views.

I equally strongly support farming communities and hold the belief that the Commonwealth Government encourages strong regulation of factory farming industries. I support all rural industries and am concerned at any impact that may prove detrimental to their viability.

The media release was intended to highlight these differences in opinion. I apologise for any harm that may have been subsequently caused to the reputation of Voiceless.

The Hon Sussan Ley MP
Federal Member for Farrer
