Sydney Morning Herald
Written by Paul Sheehan

Give people the facts on factory farming and they can make their own choice, writes Paul Sheehan.

"But your own vegetarianism, Mrs Costello," says President Garrard, "it comes out of moral conviction, does it not?"

"No, I don't think so," she says. "It comes out of a desire to save my soul."

Note from Ondine Sherman, Voiceless.

'This article does not reflect the enormous amount of respect that I have for the advocates who have dedicated their lives to the cause animal protection. Everyone, including myself, who sees the incredible cruelty that our society inflicts on animals and their pain and suffering can not help but be highly distressed and emotional. Those working in this area live with this 'traumatic knowledge' on a daily basis. However, I do believe that our emotions can help us make greater inroads: in order to make significant changes in the way our society treats animals, we must appeal to peoples' hearts rather than their minds.'
